Today we watched some parts from the TV show West Wing where these people were trying to change the maps that kids use it school. Apparently the maps have been misleading this whole time and so many people had no idea. The map in which I am talking about is called the Mercator map and the information that it provides is wrong in some aspects. On the Mercator map Greenland is shown about half the size of Africa where in real life Africa is about fourteen time the size of Greenland. I believe that the map should be updated and the newer versions should be used in school because they are more accurate and outline what our geography really looks like. One thing that I found very interesting was when we were watching the clip and the Map was just flipped upside down switching the hemispheres. All in all I have learned things about maps that I never even knew which is catching my attention and making me more and more interested each and everyday.
