The Cultural Landscape

November 8th, 2018

Today in class we started a new PowerPoint about cultural landscape and took a bunch of notes including the key issues. Here are some notes that we took below.

  • Where is the world population distributed?
  • Why is global population increasing?
  • Why does population growth vary among regions?
  • Why do some regions face health threats?
Population Concentrations-
  • 2/3 of the world's inhabitants are clustered in four regions
  • East Asia
  • South Asia
  • Southeast Asia
  • Europe
  • Site and situation of population clutters
  • Low lying areas with fertile soil and temperature climate
  • Near an ocean or near a river with easy access to an ocean
Sparsely Populated Regions-
  • Humans avoid clustering in certain physical environments
  • Dry lands
  • Wet lands
  • Cold lands
  • High lands
  • Places considered to harsh for occupancy have diminished over time
  • places of permanent human settlement are termed the ecumene
Population Density-
  • Arithmetic density
  • Physiological density
  • Agricultural density
All in all today's class went pretty well and I like the new unit that we are in so far.
