Today in class we wrote notes about the global positioning system and covered some key questions that we were prompted with at the beginning of the unit.
- GPS stands for Global Positioning System
- It is a system that accurately determines the precise position of something on earth
- The GPS includes three elements which are listed below
- Satelites are placed in predetermined orbits
- Tracking stations to monitor and control satellites
- Receiver can locate at least 4 satelites, figure out the distance from each and figure out the precise location
- The applications are turn by turn directions in vehicles
- Navigational aid to pilots and ship captains
- provide location for social media and medical applications in a smart phone
