Rant about Alexa

October 1st, 2018

Today in class we wrote notes about the global positioning system and covered some key questions that we were prompted with at the beginning of the unit.

  • GPS stands for Global Positioning System
  • It is a system that accurately determines the precise position of something on earth
  • The GPS includes three elements which are listed below
  • Satelites are placed in predetermined orbits
  • Tracking stations to monitor and control satellites
  • Receiver can locate at least 4 satelites, figure out the distance from each and figure out the precise location
  • The applications are turn by turn directions in vehicles
  • Navigational aid to pilots and ship captains
  • provide location for social media and medical applications in a smart phone
We also filled out a few more maps and just marked about 10 places on the Mao that had a bunch of timezones. You might be wondering why the title says Rant about Alexa and that is because we were having a group discussion in class today about Alexa. We were wondering if even though you don't directly speak to here is she listening to all of your conversations even when you least expect it. All in all class was pretty good today and I enjoyed talking about the whole Alexa conversation.
