Today in class we started talking about the population pyramid and also had a little laughter for Halloween. When the teacher asked us what we were doing for Halloween and everyone for the most part said that they were doing nothing he acted a little surprised. Then we went to the back of the room like he was turning off the lights and then he scared all of us. We also took notes about the population pyramid and here they are.
- We use the population pyramid to analyze growth or decline of fertility, mortality and migration in cities
- On the population pyramid males are always on the left and females are always on the right
- The population pyramid can be in three shapes including the Christmas tree, the box and the cup
- The Christmas tree means developing nation
- The box means developed nation, slow growth
- The cup means developed nation and negative growth
The Christmas tree means growth rates are slow, high birth rate, short life expectancy and some examples are Namibia and Bangladesh
The box means infant mortality, slow population growth, long life expectancy and some examples are Sweden and the USA
The cup means low birth rate, shrinking population, long life expectancy and some examples are Italy and Japan
All in all I think class went pretty good today and this was some valuable information to know for the test.
